CYPRUS SPERM DONATION

Having children is one of the most important goals in many couples' lives. However, in some cases, it may not be possible to conceive naturally. For couples experiencing male infertility issues or single women, sperm donation offers a significant option to fulfill the dream of having children. Cyprus has become a globally preferred destination for sperm donation treatment. The main reasons for this include favorable legal regulations, high success rates, quality healthcare services, and reasonable pricing. Particularly for patients coming from Turkey, the lack of language barriers and geographical proximity also provide significant advantages.

What is Sperm Donation?

Sperm donation is the use of donor sperm for in vitro fertilization in cases where the male partner does not produce sperm (azoospermia) or has low sperm quality, or when there is a risk of a genetic disease being passed on to the baby. Women without a male partner can also resort to this method. In sperm donation procedures, sperm samples obtained from accredited sperm banks that have passed all health tests and have proven fertilization capacity are used. Donor sperm is used to fertilize the eggs of the female partner, and the resulting embryos are transferred to the female partner's uterus. At the Cyprus Omni IVF Clinic, sperm donation treatment is carried out using modern medical technologies in accordance with international standards. The treatment process involves stimulating the female partner's ovaries, collecting the eggs, fertilizing them with donor sperm in a laboratory setting, and transferring the resulting embryos.

Depending on the requests of the couples seeking treatment, sperm is selected for treatment by ensuring compatibility of blood types and physical characteristics. For the sperm to be used in the donation, a donor is chosen who resembles the male partner in terms of physical characteristics from blood type-compatible donors. All donor sperm is obtained from accredited sperm banks abroad in accordance with the relevant law.

Treatment Process

The sperm donation treatment process consists of the following stages.

Preparation Process for Female Partner:

Consultation with specialist physician: Medical history will be taken, physical examination and necessary tests will be planned. Meeting with coordinator: Transportation and accommodation arrangements will be planned. Psychological counseling: Couples may seek counseling regarding questions about the donation process and afterwards, as well as any social or psychological concerns. Conducting tests: Relevant screening tests will be requested for the woman. Ultrasonographic examination: Performed to analyze the structure of the uterus.

Stimulation Protocol:

The treatment begins on the 2nd or 3rd day of the potential mother's menstrual cycle. Egg-stimulating and proliferative hormone injections are started at an appropriate dosage. This treatment lasts approximately 9-15 days, completed by performing ultrasound every 2-3 days and checking hormone levels as necessary.

Egg Collection:

When the eggs reach a sufficient number and size (18-20 mm), a puncture needle is given. The egg collection procedure is performed under anesthesia 34-36 hours later. The procedure takes approximately 10-15 minutes.

Laboratory Stage: The collected eggs are fertilized with the selected donor sperm using the ICSI method. The embryos formed from fertilization are examined in the laboratory for 3 to 5 days.

Embryo Transfer: The highest quality embryos are selected and the embryo transfer is performed very briefly and painlessly. The transfer process is a simple and quick procedure (approximately 15 minutes).

Pregnancy Test: Depending on the developmental stage of the transferred embryos, the pregnancy test (Beta hCG) to be checked from the blood is determined 9 or 12 days after the transfer. If a positive result is obtained, it is necessary to check the pregnancy sac with an ultrasound examination 2-3 weeks after the test.
